Is This the America We Want
What do you see when you look around? Is it a united nation with strong, qualified leaders debating issues to improve our future? Do you see a functioning democracy with fair opportunities and equal treatment under the law?
For those familiar with problem-solving, it starts with discovery, planning, and implementation. This is how democracy should work—innovative, adaptable, and accountable to the people, and elastic to deal with the natural uncertainties of life, unlike tyranny from which our nation was born.
Is this America today? Some argue we are a constitutional republic, not a democracy. Our Electoral College system, intended to balance state representation, often means the popular vote doesn’t decide the presidency. This has led to controversial outcomes, like the 2000 and 2016 elections, where the president didn’t win the popular vote. It’s not a Democracy, rather, it’s inverted totalitarianism that serves the interest of the billionaire class and multinational apparatus that has betrayed us all.
If our system allows a minority to choose the president, it challenges the principles of democracy. Manipulative tactics like gerrymandering and leveraging power in the shadows betray the ideals of our founding. We must strive to have a nation that is truly of, for, and by the people, ensuring liberty and justice for all.
